Letter to Potential Members

CarolynGuestMorningCallDear potential Guild member,

The Guild would be pleased to have you as a member of our group. The Guild is composed of members from many parts of the world, all joined by the common bond of an interest in papercutting and papercuttings. There is no jury requirement, only your desire to learn more about papercutting.

As you probably know, papercutting is among the oldest of art forms, and is found in most, if not all, of the cultures of the world. Papercutting and paper art in general, takes many forms. Some are very distinct, such as those of Switzerland, Germany, Poland, China, and Mexico, to name some examples. Styles, methods, and materials are as varied as the countries and regions in which they originated. In the United States all types of cutting methods and designs are popular. The Guild of American Papercutters embraces all styles, materials, and cutting methods.

However you work, and in whatever style you prepare your papercutting art, you will find kindred artists who will admire your efforts. The Guild of American Papercutters invites you to join and enjoy the fellowship of artists interested in similar art forms, participate in a professional environment in which you can learn and have your art can be fully appreciated, and to help our membership increase the public’’s appreciation of this artform which is at the same time both traditional and vibrantly modern.

Sincerely,

Kathy Trexel Reed, President
