FirstCut Magazine

First Cut Edition 2008_23_02 FirstCut is the Guild’’s newsletter. It is published four times per year. Along with this website, FirstCut is our means of informing members about Guild meetings, exhibits, new members, etc.

In 2000 the newsletter was enlarged to its present size of 28-32 pages.  In 2008 the guild celebrated its 20th anniversary with a grand 5 day convention called Collection 2008 in Lancaster County, PA.  It is an exciting time as GAP builds toward the next 20 years.  The editor, Pat Stuntz, welcomes the challenge of maintaining the high information standards set by earlier years of production. It is an exciting time for the Guild of American Papercutters as we build toward the next 20 years!

For many members, FirstCut represents the Guild. This places great emphasis on the newsletter as the major link between the Guild and its members. It is a volunteer effort of text and images. Members research papercutting and report findings. Members also submit papercuttings as illustrations for the pages, sometimes including how-to articles. Involvement is open to all who enjoy contributing to its content, production, and growth. Members are encouraged to submit papercuttings and interesting information for and about papercutting to Pat Stuntz . Though articles are written by both members and various outside experts, all papercutting images are done by members only and must be original in design.

Past editors of FirstCut have been past President Steven Woodbury, Ellen Haberlein, past President Kerchner McConlogue, President Sukey Harris, and Angela Mohr. The current editor, Pat Stuntz, began in 2000.

Back issues of the magazine, if and when available, can be ordered for $7.50 USD. See details in the members portion of this website.
